Can't Print to my Printer
I can't print to my Network Printer.
I cannot print to my printer across my network but I can get to the Internet.
Try these steps:
- Turn off the Printer for 30 seconds and turn it back on. Let it complete the warm up cycle prior to sending any documents to be printed.
- Check the NIC Port (the port that the network cable is connected to). It should have two lights, one that is always green and another one that intermittently flashes. If not then you will need to track down the cabling to the wall and potentially to the patch panel and switch that it is connected to in your network. The port on the switch that the printer is connected to should also have a green light permanently on and another that intermittently flashes. If these lights are not on then there is a physical cable connection issue or the printer is turned off.
- If the lights are on then their may be a setup issue with the printer. There are several ways to deal with this issue. You may wish to consult the manual for your printer and use the web interface provided by the manufacturer. Typically, two values need to be set -- the TCP/IP Address and the Subnet Mask which you can set from the front panel of the printer. The Subnet is almost always 255.255.255.0 and the IP Address is something like 192.168.1.100. The first three sets of numbers (192.168.1) need to match your TCP/IP address range on your desktop computers. The last set of numbers (.100) should be a number between 1 and 254 that is not in use. From a Command Prompt on your computer you can type IPCONFIG and press the ENTER key to see your IP Address. You then can configure your printer from the front panel to have an IP Address and Subnet that matches yours making sure to change the last set of numbers (.100) to a number not in use. You will most likely need to add your printer again under Printers and Faxes.
