I can't Connect

To my Server or the Internet

How do I troubleshoot network connectivity issues? Try these steps first.

Are you connected to your network by a wire or are you wireless?

Wired Wireless
  1. Do you have a red "X" next to a computer icon in your tray bar (task bar next to the time)?
    Taskbar Network Icon
  2. If so, make sure your network cable is connected to the Ethernet Port. This is a cable that has a connector (RJ-45) that should be slightly larger than a regular phone connector (RJ-11) and have 6 wires inside of it.

  3. If you still get a red "X" or a prompt telling you the repair was unsuccessful then right click the icon again and select View Available Wireless Networks and attempt to connect to another network.

If you still receive a red "X" in either situation please contact us at help@ithandyman.com or by calling 303.223.7768 option 1 for further assistance. If you still have issues but no red "X" then follow these steps:

  1. Open a Command Prompt by selecting Run under the Start Button. Type "cmd" and click OK.
  2. At the command prompt enter the following command and press the ENTER key:

    ipconfig /all

  3. Look for the following lines:

    Dhcp Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : Yes

  4. If DHCP Enabled is Yes then type the following at the command prompt:

    ipconfig /registerdns
    ipconfig /flushdns
    ipconfig /release
    ipconfig /renew

(You should press the ENTER key between each of the lines listed above.)
